Symposium Success Story

Bill Hughes "I was unemployed eighteen months when I attended last year's Symposium. Two of the workshops I attended addressed searching for employment and, more importantly, job interviews. I learned the following:
  • Explain to the interviewers what a Project Manager brings to the organization.
  • Explain the skills I have that makes be a good project manager.
  • Explain to the interviewers how much I love being a Project Manager.
  • Let the interviews see my enthusiasm for what I do.
Also, I was able to spend time with other Project Managers. This interaction helped to pump me up.

In my very next interview, I took the advice. I took control of the interview and let my employer know benefits I would bring to the position. I was offered the job the next week. In the first week, I asked my manager why she hired me. She told me that she and the other interviewers were impressed with my skills and, and most important, my enthusiasm. I later found out that I was hired over those who had industry experience, where I did not.

What I took away from the Symposium is directly responsible for me obtaining my current job".
