I hope you continue to be well and safe as the Space Coast continues to endure this pandemic. As a reminder, PMI continues to support its practitioners and members in this time of disruption. As part of this commitment, I want to remind you that PMI has instituted a Membership Hardship Policy - Unemployed Members with 3 years of good standing membership are qualified for membership hardship grant by calling PMI Customer Care.
As we consider our next year and open Board positions, I encourage you all to consider volunteering to join our Board. Please see our Organization Chart and let us know if you'd like additional information about any of these positions. Our immediate need is for an Elections and Awards Director to start as soon as possible. Please email me for information about what this role entails if you are interested in taking on this important position.
Our next Virtual Happy Hour is July 16th at 6:00 PM and we are so excited to announce that award-winning Project Management & Leadership Keynote Speaker, Author, & Coach, Podcast Host Andy Kaufman has agreed to join us! I want to state uncategorically that PMI and PMI Space Coast Chapter embrace diversity and therefore I must comment about an upsetting event that occurred at the beginning of our June virtual happy hour. We were Zoom bombed with incredibly offensive imagery and audio content and want to apologize to all who were exposed to this attack. We were able to recover by using a different conferencing tool however not everyone who was exposed to the attack returned and we are very aware of how hurtful the visual and audio content that flooded our meeting was. In response and for the safety of our membership, our future events will all be secured. This means that in order to attend, you must register by the deadline so that we can send you the password protected connection information securely. We hope that this change to our process will enable you to all feel safe connecting to our virtual events.
Thank you to Captain Flip Capistrano, U.S. Coast Guard Military Attaché to Brazil for joining us at our June Quarterly Virtual Dinner event and presenting "Leadership So You Can Sleep at Night". We had a great turnout and appreciate the time and effort that Captain Flip put into sharing his knowledge with us. We always welcome the opportunity to support our members who are willing deliver presentations and webinars so please let us know if you would like to do a webinar or presentation.
Details for all of our upcoming events are in this newsletter and on our Events page.
Earning PDUs is a necessary aspect of maintaining your PMI certification. To that end, we have instituted a monthly Webinar Spotlight to direct you to webinar content that we think is specifically relevant to the Space Coast and that you can access free of charge.
A PMI-funded research study identified how project staff use their knowledge networks to build project capabilities, and how knowledge is transferred, translated and managed in these networks. We also explored the role of networks in providing mutual support for 'members' and as a coordination mechanism for the project. The outcomes of the study will help project staff, and their organizations, to understand practical network design strategies and behaviors to transfer and manage knowledge across and within different project environments.
At this time, we are still hopeful that we can hold this event in person. In the event that we need to move to a virtual or hybrid event, we will announce via email blast.
Join us Saturday, August 29th from 9:00 AM to 4:00 PM for our annual Professional Development Day.
