PMI Space Coast Chapter January 2021

Dear PMI Space Coast Members.

As 2021 begins and vaccines begin to roll out, many of us feel the pressure of pandemic fatigue more than ever. I hope you continue to be well, safe and healthy. As a reminder, PMI continues to support its practitioners and members in this time of disruption. As part of this commitment, I want to remind you that PMI has instituted a Membership Hardship Policy - Unemployed Members with 3 years of good standing membership are qualified for membership hardship grant by calling PMI Customer Care. PMI also offers many additional resources that can be found later in this newsletter.

In January we held our first Virtual Lunch & Learn Series Workshop and experienced a surprising level of registration and participation. The workshop was informative and helpful and given the strong response from our membership we will work to find more opportunities for lunch and learn sessions this year. We also had another fun Kahoot! happy hour in January and hope that you will consider joining us for this social activity soon. Our next exciting virtual evening event is How to Thrive in the Covid-19 Gig Economy, February 23rd starting at 6:00 PM.  Please click here for more information and to register. 

Another exciting new program that we have introduced this year is our Mentorship Program. We now have an opportunity on our website for all members to request a mentor as well as to volunteer to become a mentor. Please click here for more information about this great program. The Spaceport Summit (formerly Space Congress) will be held February 23-25, 2021. The event will be conducted virtually to better engage industry leaders from all over the world and “Small Steps, Giant Leaps” is the theme for the event. The program will feature panels and notable speakers covering such topics as Spaceports Around the Nation, Inspiring the Next Generation, Lunar Exploration, LEO Commercialization, Exploration & Innovation, and International Initiatives. There will be special sessions for an astronaut meet and greet as well as networking/mentoring for young professionals.

Getting Under the Hood of the PMBOK® Guide – Seventh Edition

PMI is making changes to both the Standard for Project Management and A Guide to the Project Management Body of Knowledge (PMBOK® Guide) to reflect the range of different project approaches and your need for flexibility. We’ve heard questions about how the 12 principles evolved for the Standard for Project Management and how we developed the Guide to the Project Management Body of Knowledge. We’re here to answer them. PMI Space Coast welcomes proposals from passionate speakers interested in sharing their experiences, knowledge and expertise on such topics as general business and strategy, leadership, project management, and technical or industry-specific specialties. Interested speakers may submit their abstracts for consideration for upcoming events in 2021, including 1 hour monthly webinars, Lunch and Learns, and annual professional development day.
